High Carbon Steel in Today’s Market

High carbon steel in today’s market.

One of the residual effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the metals industry has been continuous supply chain challenges. However, as we get further into 2022, we were seeing some of the markets return to normal, including the high carbon steel market.

High Carbon Steel Availability in Today’s Market

When the COVID pandemic hit the United States in March 2020, everything shut down — from construction to automotive industries — and there were unknowns of when the material would be available again.

Today, mill lead times for steel have started to come down, with Three D Metals’ Director of National Accounts Chad Castrigano predicting the industry will see a 180 turn from the markets of two years ago.

“I think what’s going to happen is there’s going to be an abundance of steel available as automotive continues to slow the pace and the home-construction market is cooling off,” he predicted.

High carbon steel is widely used in the manufacturing of home appliances, with Castrigano noting on average there are seven new appliances for every home — all of which use steel in their construction.

Customer Service in an Ever-Changing Global Market

As always, markets ebb and flow, but having a high carbon steel provider who serves customers all over the world provides additional benefits when it comes to market analysis.

Three D Metals ships steel all over the globe — as far as Brazil, Canada, and Mexico. In addition to our Valley City, Ohio, headquarters, we also have a location and warehouse in Canada, and warehouses in Alabama, North Carolina, Missouri, and Ohio.

But it’s our customer service and market knowledge that sets us apart.

“I think it’s because of our team and how we’re able to transfer the Three D Metals culture into a call with our customers,” Castrigano said. “It’s not just our customers calling, trying to figure something out. We call because we’re trying to provide solutions to the issues they may be having. We’re far from perfect … but it’s all how we react to it.”

Why Choose Three D Metals as Your Preferred High Carbon Steel Supplier

According to Castrigano , it’s because…

We ship smiles.

“You could buy steel or you could buy metal, let’s just say from anybody, but working at Three D Metals, I just feel like I’m part of something bigger. From the former CEOs to the current CEO, Chris, they really live the values and they treat everybody here as an individual of their family. When we bring customers in, I think they see that, they get that, and they want to be part of it. They want to be part of something fun, and that’s what we offer our customers,” he said.

He also credited Three D Metals’ knowledge of ever-changing market trends and our vast array of products.

“I truly believe that our account managers are the best out there,” he said. “We pride ourselves on being able to predict market patterns and then transfer this information to our customers to help keep them ahead of market trends.”

“As the market ebbs and flows, regardless of the metal, whether it’s high carbon, aluminum, or copper, we have product specialists for all of them. And then we have several persons on staff with years of stamping, forming and transformer knowledge,” he added.
